Makeup Ingredients to avoid

Every once in a while we notice that when we come back home after a night of partying and socialising, our face gets itchy. Despite removing the makeup and thoroughly cleansing your face, you notice a zit or random cystic acne growing the next morning.

We bet it didn’t cross your mind that in all probability, the zits, pimples and acne are due to a few ingredients in your makeup products.

Some makeup products don’t mention all the ingredients in the box and some of them can have a very bad effect on your skin. Here are a few ingredients that you need to keep an eye out for and always avoid.

Table of Contents

Silicon

If you see silicon written on any ingredient, drop it down and run in the opposite direction. Although it does make your skin feel nice, it is not good for your skin in the long run and can cause early signs of aging too.

Sulfate

If you can sulfate-free shampoo, then why not extend the same courtesy to your skin? Sodium lauryl sulfate is great to absorb oil and the extra sebum on your skin but it can cause buildup under your skin that can ruin your skin barrier and that lead to those nasty outbreaks.

Parabens

Parabens have chemicals that have preservatives. These paraben preservatives become ground to bacteria and mold growth that can do a lot of damage to your skin.

Synthetic Colours

Never ever use products that have a lot of artificial colouring. Even when it comes to lipsticks, stick to cruelty-free, vegan products because you know they’re organic and won’t cause any skin damage.

If you are already struggling with the side effects of makeup that has one of these ingredients, then here are a few tips to take care of your skin:

– Visit your dermatologist who will prescribe you an anti-allergy ointment

– Drink a lot of water to remove all the toxin buildup under your skin

– Use homemade masks like curds and saffron to calm the acne

– Eat fruits. In fact replace all your snack time meals with fruits and fresh juice

– Sleep on clean pillow covers. Change the side and wash them on a weekly basis until your acne heals

Keep the treatment simple and always be careful before purchasing your makeup.
